The service of the New York Secretary-General of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy (la Mission Culturelle et Universitaire Française aux Etats-Unis) is offering a full-time position:

Press Officer

Start date: April 1, 2020

Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, the Press Officer acts as the key press liaison for the Cultural Services of the French Embassy’s culture and education activities.

As a vital member of the Communications Department, the Public Relations Officer plans and develops strong, effective campaigns to publicize the programs of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy through local, national, and international editorial channels. The Press Officer will liaise with the Cultural Services’ staff in New York City and 9 regional offices to ensure Cultural Service’s mission, messages, and accomplishments are communicated strategically.

Coordinate press strategy around strategic initiatives, issues, and events; create publicity plans, write press releases; pitch stories in coordination with Cultural Services of the French Embassy departments; act as liaison with PR agencies and other partner venues on media campaigns; cultivate relationships with reporters, editors, and bloggers to generate coverage of the Cultural Service’s work in news stories, opinion pieces, long-form articles, etc.; maintain a list of local, national and international press contacts; establish and cultivate relationships with journalists, bloggers and partner institutions; arrange interviews and any related photography on a variety of organizational initiatives; provide summary of press outreach and strategy on a monthly basis; develop talking points and statements for dissemination to staff, media, and the public; conduct daily review of French and American media outlets; monitor Cultural Services of the French Embassy visibility; maintain the “Press Room” on frenchculture.org; disseminate pertinent press to colleagues, as well as content to diverse constituencies; work with colleagues to ensure all Cultural Services of the French Embassy communications are consistent with mission, style, and brand.

Provide public relations support for and attend a majority of Cultural Services of the French Embassy events; greet the press and promote Cultural Services of the French Embassy initiatives; manage photo archives for Cultural Services of the French Embassy events and distribute as needed to news outlets.

Required Qualifications

Education and experience
Bachelor’s degree required, MA preferred, with a strong background in writing; 3-5 years work experience, preferably in the communications, press, media, and cultural spheres; Strong press and media relationships in the field of culture and/or education; Familiarity with bi-cultural or multi-cultural work environment; appreciation for French culture; Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Language Requirements
Fluency in English (native speaker) and French 

Computer Skills
Experience working with Cision; Strong presentation skills and ability to do basic graphic layout; Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications; Photography and video production experience or skills.

Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse constituents, multitask and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Occasional availability for events on weekends and in the evenings.

Gross Salary
4,520 USD/month, full-time basis
