Films on the Green Festival - Internship

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States develops and implements a policy of cultural, educational, and university exchange in the United States, under the authority of the Cultural Counselor. (www.frenchculture.org)

Since 2008 the Film, TV & New Media Department has organized an outdoor French Film Festival: Films on the Green during the summer months. Presented in partnership with NYC Parks and FACE Foundation, the festival shows the best of French cinematography with 13 screenings on Fridays in 9 different city park sites. DJs are spinning tunes before the screenings. The festival reached over 7,000 viewers in 2019.

Intern will assist the program officer in coordinating all aspects of the festival and especially:

  • Manage social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram targeting special-interest groups and communities and create digital content to promote the festival and the screenings
  • Create/edit videos to promote the festival and the films
  • Develop and implement promotional opportunities through give-away contests (follow up with partners and sponsors, coordination, promotion, etc.)
  • Coordinate DJ sets
  • Actual event on-site support
  • Duties may include event planning tasks (organizing opening reception, coordinating guest lists, etc.), mailing out of any promotional materials, photographing events, writing content for different media (print, advertising, online media), and administrative tasks.

The internship position is a wonderful opportunity for current students in either undergraduate or postgraduate programs, to gain a better understanding of how to organize and promote an international film festival in New York City. Working under the supervision of the festival program officer, and alongside French Embassy employees across various departments (Film, communication, development), the intern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on film festival experience, while getting exposed to a French environment and cultural diplomacy.

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Excellent video editing skills
  • Background studies in communication a plus
  • Interest in French culture and society a plus
