Prosper Assouline, a self-made-man of incredible talent and enthusiasm, was named a Chevalier of the Order of the Arts and Letters on January 12, 2011 during a ceremony held at Sotheby’s, New York.

Mr. Assouline’s friend Thierry Despont, famously known as Bill Gates’s architect, presented Prosper with his medal, and insisted on the astounding success of this atypical publisher, who, with his wife Martine, built a publishing house dedicated to fine books and modeled on a sewing workshop. Posper’s precision, fine eye and perfectionism are at the heart of Assouline’s success, whose shops can now be found on street corners worldwide.
