Demo Night at the French-American Media Lab

October 27, 2016 | By French Culture

On October 25th, 2016, Thomas Michelon, Deputy Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy, welcomed guests to a Demo Night hosted by General Assembly celebrating the close of the 2nd edition of the French-American Digital Lab, an annual program for early stage startups in the cultural sector co-produced by the French Embassy and Business France.

Good evening and thank you for joining us.

It is a pleasure to welcome you all. I’d like to thank General Assembly for hosting us tonight. It’s great to work with you.

The French Embassy is firmly committed to promoting innovation in the creative and cultural sectors. We also believe in the importance of fostering strong ties between France and the US. This is why we—in partnership with Business France—developed the French-American Digital Lab in 2015. The program is designed to give French startups in the cultural industries the tools to set up shop in the US. The program also seeks to offer young American startups the opportunity to explore the European market in France.

I’d like to thank Sabrina and Annie for their support and hard work. Without you, nothing would have been possible and I am very grateful.

I am very excited to announce that we have just opened the Call for Applications for the first Paris edition of the Digital Lab. It will take place from December 12th to 17th.  You can find more information and the application form on our website, I encourage you to take a look!

In closing, I would like to thank all of our partners and sponsors, without whom this program would not have been possible: our co-producer Business France, our program partners the Made in NY Media Center by IFP; as well as to Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator (BF+DA), a Pratt Institute initiative; and our supporters Paris-New York Tandem 2016, a program of the City of Paris and the Institut français; Flipboard; Orange; 18Havas.ios and the DESIGN studio by Dassault Systemes.

I would also like to thank the companies who welcomed our participants and gave presentations as part of the Digital Lab program: Kickstarter, 10xbeta at the New Lab, Samsung Accelerator, Pentagram, and the New York City Economic Development Corporation, as well as the program speakers and mentors, Sree Sreenivasan, Alban Denoyel, Terri Trespicio, Cecily Mak, to name only a few. Last but not least, Mathieu and Daphne, my awesome team-They did a great job!

And now, I will give the floor to Sabrina Dridje, from Made in New York Media Center by IFP, who will introduce the Digital Lab start-ups for this evening’s demo session.

Thank you all for joining us, and I wish you a wonderful evening!
