The Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States, Institut français-Paris, and FACE Fondation (French American Cultural Exchange), Bureau Export, and Paris Jazz Club are delighted to present French Highlights 2017 this winter in New York City featuring some of France’s most daring contemporary art and performance artists.
With the generous support of the French Embassy, the College of Staten Island offered scholarships to eight City University of New York students allowing them study abroad. Travelling with their professor in July 2016, the students (six from the College of Staten Island and two from the Graduate Center) became filmmakers in the city of Tours. As a group, they brought with them a wide range of interests in the arts—filmmaking, photography, theater, animation, and writing. With these talents, the students created a short film, L’ÉTÉ EN SUSPENS (A SUMMER PAUSED).
The Recording Academy has just released its list of nominees for the 2017 Grammy Awards Ceremony, to be held next February in Los Angeles. The 2017 is, once again, very strong with nominations of French artists and labels, notably with Jean-Michel Jarre nominated in an electro category, Gojira nominated in two rock categories, and a legion of nominations for the label Harmonia Mundi and its imprints.
Launched in Chicago in 2015, City/Cité, a program created by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States in New York & Chicago and the Institut Français, brings together French and American researchers, policymakers, activists, artists, architects, and journalists in Paris to discuss urban democracy on December 9th and 10th, 2016. The program is slated to take place to Detroit in April 2017, thus focusing on three major metropolises that are emblematic of recent urban transformation.
Innovation featured in this year's Children books festival in France, City/Cité A Franco-American exchange in Paris on and about urban democracy, La Maison Victor Hugo pays tribute to the poet by dedicating an exhibition to one of his earlier poems ‘La Pente de la Rêverie’.

On November 15th, 2016, executive music producer Daniel Glass and Grammy Award-winning musician and producer Nile Rodgers were conferred the insignia of the Order of Arts and Letters by Thomas Michelon, Deputy Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy. The award was presented with the following speech at a ceremony taking place at the Payne Whitney Mansion in New York, home to the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.
