Marie-Pierre Ulloa and Aron Rodrigue Decorated by Consul General of France in San Francisco

On June 28th, Consul General of France Romain Serman decorated Marie-Pierre Ulloa with the insigna of Chevalier of the Order of Arts et Lettres, and Aron Rodrigue with the insigna of Chevalier of the Order of Academic Palms, for their commitment and dedication to French-related research fields. Marie-Pierre Ulloa and Aron Rodrigue are both research affiliates of the Mediterranean Studies Forum at Stanford University.

Marie-Pierre Ulloa is the Associate Director for Academic Programming and Student Outreach for the Taube Center for Jewish Studies at Stanford University. She is also a lecturer in the French Department, teaching Francophone and North African Cinema and Literature. She holds a BA in History from the University of La Sorbonne, an MA in History and Political Science and an Advanced Post-Graduate Diploma in History (summa cum laude) from Sciences Po in Paris, where she wrote her dissertation on intellectual dissidence from World War II to the post-Algerian War period through the case study of French existentialist philosopher Francis Jeanson. Marie-Pierre Ulloa also has an ongoing research project on the Maghrebi Diaspora in California.

Aron Rodrigue is the current director of the Stanford Humanities Center and the Founder of the Mediterranean Forum, and has previously served as the Chair of the History Department (2005-2008) and the Co-Director of the Taube Center for Jewish Studies (2001-2005). Professor Rodrigue is internationally renowned for his expertise in modern Jewish history and the Ottoman Empire.  He has taught History at Stanford since 1991, and is a research affiliate for the Forum on Contemporary Europe at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. Francophone and Francophile, Aron Rodrigue's research has also been published in French.
