Grande Traversée De Simone De Beauvoir, Absolument

France-Culture is pleased to present a new and exciting radio-fiction series on a French feminist and literary icon: Simone de Beauvoir. The week-long podcast series will feature interviews, readings, and contributions by Beauvoir experts, including esteemed authors and journalists, academics, and Beauvoir's adoptive daughter, Sylvie.

Beauvoir wanted everything from life. To see everything, to understand everything, and to write everything to "burn in thousands of hearts." This absolute quest led the "Castor" (or beaver, Beauvoir's nickname) far beyond the small world of Saint-Germain-Des-Prés.

Recorded in Paris, New York, and Chicago, this grand crossing seeks to reveal a new and unknown Simone de Beauvoir: Beauvoir at every stage of life, from a young, tidy girl to an independent and engaged woman, burning the ultimate taboo of old age. Passionate Beauvoir - sometimes desperate - but always determined. American Beauvoir, heart beating in Harlem or deliriously in love in the ghettos of Chicago. Beauvoir in her many voices, intimate and political, unbridled in her diaries and her love letters, audacious in her romanesque daydreams, rigorous in her memoires.

Beauvoir free, absolutely.

Directed by Christine Diger and produced by Christine Lecerf of France-Culture.
