French Books Usa: Week In Review

Awards SeasonEmmanuel Carrère was awarded Le Monde's 2014 literary prize for Le Royaume this Wednesday. The novel is an autobiographical account of the author's spiritual journey. On a related note, our soon-to-open bookstore Albertine looks forward to welcoming Carrère at the opening festival!

Book Fair Brush-OffLe Nouvel Observateur speculates as to why France never answered Germany’s invitation to be Frankfurt Book Fair's Guest of Honor in 2017.

Toons and TeachingFrançoise Mouly, creator of the Toon Graphics comics publishing house and The New Yorker's art editor, thinks teachers should use comic books more. Toon Graphic's “Theseus and the Minotaur,” a retelling of the classic Greek myth by French writer and cartoonist Yvan Pommaux, for example, is full of details that are intended to help children understand the world around them.

Digital DevelopmentBnF Partenariats, Bibliothèque Nationale de France’s subsidiary firm dedicated to the development of digital products and services, has launched an e-book collection. Books were curated from public domain titles belonging to the BnF’s heritage funds. The collection is available on all distributing platforms.

Spreading the (French) WordIt may surprise some to learn that Francophone literature in North America is published outside of Québec. Writers and publishers in Manitoba, Ontario, New-Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Louisiana are all working to promote Francophone voices.
