Franzen’s Freedom And Other Highlights From The 'rentrée Litteraire'

The French publishing season, known in France as the 'Rentrée litteraire', is condensed into a short three month run from August to early November. During this period, all French and foreign titles are published, a total of 654 in 2011.

Among American translated works released in France this year: Joyce Carol Oates’ Widow’s Story (Histoire de veuve), Robert and Aline Crumb’s graphic novel Need More Love: A Graphic Memoir (Parle-moi d’amour!), Adam Mansbach’s blockbuster, Go the Fuck to Sleep… and the book causing the biggest buzz in France this year… Jonathan Franzen’s tale of suburbia, Freedom.
