Albertine Books At Best Of France

On Saturday, September 26, Laurent Fabius, French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will inaugurate a free, weekend-long Best of France exhibition event that aims to promote France and French culture among New Yorkers.

Taking place in Times Square this year, Best of France (formerly Taste of France) is the largest event in the world that is exclusively dedicated to France. Over 150 exhibitors will present French technology, art, and culture at individual stands.

Albertine, the French Embassy’s reading room and bookshop, will naturally take part in the major event and offer a selection of works for sale at its stand. Fall new releases from the French Rentrée littéraire and bestselling novels by Michel Houellebecq, Virginie Despentes, and Patrick Modiano will be available, along with classic graphic novels like Asterix and Tintin. (For a selection of bilingual texts, visit Albertine at French Morning’s Bilingual Fair on October 3.)

In addition to French literary fare, Best of France claims to provide a “complete […] sensory experience” of the country and will also include several exhibitions and live performances by Metropolitan Opera singers, DJs, and 16 dancers from Paris’ famous Moulin Rouge. A wine tasting presented by 20 of the best sommeliers in the United States will incorporate 100 different wine varieties from all over France, and food, cooking demonstrations, and destination-focused travel booths complete the French experience.
