Barthes Vision - By The Institut Français

Roland Barthes would have turned 100 years old in 2015.

To celebrate this anniversary, the Institut Français is inviting internet users to take part in a unique digital experience: seeing the world through Roland Barthes' eyes, by contributing to a major image collection.

This interactive digital experience allows contributors to upload photographs that, for them, fit the numerous key words ("hashtags") and Barthes quotations on the website. A colorful and diverse mosaic is built photo by photo, revealing and reflecting a multitude of of approaches and readings to Barthes' work.

Join the community, and add your own contribution to this ever-changing work!

Because just like with thoughts and writing, "(...) what the Photograph reproduces to infinity has occurred only once (...)" (Camera Lucida, Reflections on Photography, trans. R. Howard)

Roland Barthes (1915-1980) was a French cultural and literary critic, whose clever and lyrical writings on semiotics made structuralism one of the leading movements of the twentieth century. Barthes had a cult following and published seventeen books, including Camera LucidaMythologies, and A Lover's Discourse: Fragments.
