About Sylvie Tissot

As a Professor of Political Science at the University of Paris-8, Sylvie Tissot focuses her research on urban reform and class analysis, specifically in impoverished areas of France and gentrified neighborhoods in the United States. Her new book will be based on the fieldwork she has done in Boston, and will center around these topics. In addition to Boston, her current research includes her studies in New York and Paris, where she examined the role of attitudes in the development of social classes and urban space.

In the past, she has served as a visiting scholar at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University and the Institute of Public Knowledge at New York University.  She is also a feminist activist and a filmmaker, engaging in public debates about feminism, race, and religion.  She has made two documentaries with her sister about the French feminist Christine Delphy and has co-directed several issues of Pierre Bourdieu's journal Proceedings of Social Science Research.
