French Youth Author, Yaël Hassan, Visited Schools In Atlanta, March 23-27, 2014

Students of French from the Atlanta International School, Mount Paran, Lovett, Westminster and Gordon Central discovered the world of literature as award-winning French fiction writer for children and young adults, Yaël Hassan shared about her work.After studying some of her books in their French class, the students had the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the profession of writing.Hassan also video-conferenced with students from Westwood High School, (SC) and answered their questions about the various themes in her books.The works of Yaël Hassan address current events with profound simplicity. Her recent novel "Mon rêve d’Amérique" deals with WWI and the history of immigration to the United-States. Her last publication, "M comme..." addresses the issue of bullying.These presentations were part of Yaël Hassan’s U.S. Book tour, which included stops in Texas, New Orleans, Georgia, and Baltimore.Yaël Hassan spent her childhood in Belgium, her adolescence in France, and her youth in Israel. She returned to France in 1984 with her family. Following an accident in 1994 that left her temporarily paralyzed, Hassan wrote her first novel, A "Grandfather Fallen from the Sky" (in French: "Un grand-père tombé du ciel"), which won several national literature awards.Yaël Hassan’s US tour was sponsored by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United-States.
