What's The Big Deal With Proust?

At the Morgan Library's current exhibition 'Marcel Proust and Swann's Way', visitors can follow the development of his great work from drafts and doodles into its final published form, the 4,000 page À la Recherche du temps perdu.

According to Tom Hughes at the New York Times' City Room, one recent visitor wasn't sure what all the fuss was about. Hughes caught a husband "[striding] in excitedly, towing his wife who appears a bit mystified." He goes on to describe the scene:

Husband (staring intently at one of Proust's manuscripts, written longhand in school composition books - clearly he is a fan): "This is amazing."

Wife: "What's the big deal with Proust again?"

Husband: "It's a long story."

If you're interested to see for yourself "what the big deal with Proust" is, you can catch the exhibition from now until April 28th. For more info, please click here.
