2012 Translated Titles List

As 2013’s new batch of books starts appearing on the shelves, we take a look back at the astonishing number and quality of French books in translation published last year in the United States.  French filmmaker Claude Lanzmann’s anticipated The Patagonian Hare: A Memoir and Michel Houellebecq’s newest novel The Map and the Territory are two of the most revealing examples from a long list of exciting new literature.  Marie NDiaye graced the cover of the New York Times in 2012 for her novel Three Strong Women, which was recently shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize, and young emerging author Laurent Binet’s Prix Goncourt winning first novel HHhH was named one of The New York Times’ 100 Notable Books of 2012 and has been shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Awards.  We are also happy to report that A Game for Swallows, a comic book by young author Zeina Abirached, and winner of our French Voices Grant, has been getting a lot of attention from the American press.

Please browse our list of 2012 translated titles and if you notice any books that are missing, help us complete the list by contacting the Book Department of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy at 972livre@gmail.com.
