Le Semeur au Soleil Couchant (Van Gogh, 1888)

The heat has been cranked up this week in our Summer Reads blog series, featuring several steamy titles with some very thirsty protagonists. Stay hydrated and grab your fans, these books are sizzling with vice and adventure!

Portugal by Cyril Pedrosa (Dupuis, 2011)
A return to one’s roots, this book is the story of an uninspired comic-book author who feels home everywhere and nowhere, and decides to pay a visit to his grand-parents’ homeland: Portugal. Will this new setting be a source of inspiration?

Saveur coco by Renaud Dillies (Dargaud, 2013)
Get really, really thirsty wandering in the desert with our two heroes, Jiři and Pôlka, in search of water. All they have is a coconut, but no means to open it.  The will to survive and a giant flying fish act as their guides in this deliciously absurd tale.

Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos (Penguin Books, 2007)
Aristocrats and ex-lovers Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont embark on a sophisticated game of seduction and manipulation to bring amusement to their jaded lives.  Serious and deadly consequences arise with hearts on the line.

Red Grass by Boris Vian (TamTam Books, 2013)
Red Grass is a provocative narrative about an engineer, Wolf, who invents a bizarre machine that allows him to revisit his past and erase inhibiting memories. Our hero attempts to liberate himself from past traumatic events involving uncomfortable religious, social and sexual relations.
