Suite Camus at the Between the Seas Festival
- an audio-visual tribute to Albert Camus

Suite Camus is an interdisciplinary performance that takes the audience to the heart of the Mediterranean and into the world of French-Algerian writer Albert Camus. Initiated by the Goethe Insitut Paris at the occasion of Camus’ centenary and premiered in Paris on July 2ndto an enthusiastic audience, it will now be presented for the first time in the US at the Between the Seas Festival NYC on July 27th and 28th.

Original texts by Albert Camus and music between jazz, flamenco and ambience are being performed live to the video projection of breathtaking Algerian landscapes; places that Camus described in his works such as Alger, the Sahara desert or ancient roman sites. While following Camus, the videos also depict an honest picture of present-day Algeria, its people, culture, poverty and life on the African coast of the Mediterranean.

The suite is based on a structure that stems from an entry in Albert Camus diary from 1945. Here he lists his “dix mots préférés”, ten words most important to him and his work:  world, pain, earth, mother, man, honor, desert, misery, summer, sea. German composer Andreas Arnold collaborated with Algerian video artists Katia Kameli and Hassen Ferhani to create ten audio-visual compositions for each word. Feat. Dan Brantigan (trumpet), Andreas Arnold (guitar), Moto Fukushima (bass), Marcelo Woloski (percussion).

About the artist: Andreas Arnold is a young guitarist and composer based in Brooklyn, NY with five critically acclaimed albums under his own name. He has performed on stages all across Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia with his own groups as well as with other artists. Living and studying both in NYC and Spain his unique guitar style displays the rhythmic drive of flamenco music, the sophistication of classical harmony and the free spiritedness of jazz. www.andreasarnold.info
