Beautiful Darkness, written by Fabien Vehlmann & Kerascoet, translated by Dascher Helge, Drawn and Quarterly, October 2013

"A fairytale where the darkness is only natural: the real world of Beautiful Darkness not only includes but embraces decay, calm indifference, and animals who act like animals, just like life - and death. And neither its prince or princess are quite what we expect. Read it outdoors for maximum effect." Kathe Koja, author of The Cipher and Under the Poppy

A grim young adult fantasy book about a community of fairies who come together in the aftermath of a tragedy. The watercolor artwork is alternatively dark and whimsical (executed by the husband/wife team Kerascoët) and the story by Fabien Vehlmann is a classical fantasy tale by way of The Borrowers and Lord of the Flies.

Fabien Vehlmann is a comic book writer, born in Mont-de-Marsan, January 30, 1972.

This time period has seen African cinema forging a new relationship with the real and implementing new aesthetic strategies, as well as the emergence of a post-colonial popular cinema.
