Jack Fitzgerald has been an Auckland cop since the unsolved disappearances of his wife and his daughter. When news of his suicide reaches his old friend Paul Osborne in Australia, Osborne wastes no time: he flies direct to New Zealand in search of the truth, convinced that Jack's death could not have been suicide. Indeed, Fitzgerald's supposed suicide followed hard on the heels of the death of a Maori healer accuse of orchestrating a series of heinous murders, and Osborne is convinced that the truth about Fitzgerald's death lies hidden in the practices and the mysterious demise of this madman. An expert in Maori culture, Osborne retraces his dead friend's steps into a world of occult mystery and discovers an entire country thirsting for bloody revenge.
