Book Events 2013: Fall Highlights

September 3, 2013 | By Laurence Marie

While summer is still in the air here in New York, the rentrée littéraire is in full swing in France, with an exciting batch of new books that have given rise to a wave of reviews and debates.

This fall, the US will have its own French rentrée littéraire, with exciting new translations of fiction, non-fiction and picture books, along with a more-impressive-than-ever roster of French authors in New York!

In November, we are pleased to invite you to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the New Literature from Europe festival. Hop in a cab for a chat and share a glass of wine with Laurent Binet, author of the widely acclaimed HHhH. Not a bad way to discuss a great book!

The French Embassy’s Year with Proust festival continues in October and November with two special events. First, A Nomadic Reading of the entirety of Swann’s Way, over seven nights in seven locations. Second, Proust Inspires Fiction!, a series of roundtables which will gather French and American contemporary authors whose works in fiction are influenced by Proust: Charles Dantzig, Elyane Dezon-Jones, Laurent Mauvignier, Catherine Millet, Olivier Rolin, Jean-Christophe Valtat will converse with Jennifer Egan, Daniel Levin Becker and Edmund White. And if you enjoyed Lydia Davis, Edmund White or Siri Husvedt’s personal accounts of their attraction to Proust, you should check our Proust and Me Blog: posts will continue through November 14.

Last but not least, don’t miss the many unique opportunities to meet your favorite authors in NYC this fall, where they can be found at the various literary festivals and series organized throughout the city.

Take a look at our Fall Highlights below.

Enjoy your last moments of blessedly quiet summer reading. We look forward to seeing you this fall!
