Discover Proust's Process!

September 30, 2013 | By FRENCH CULTURE BOOKS

If you thought reading Proust’s In Search of Lost Time was a challenge, wait until you see his manuscripts! Thanks to Gallica, the BnF’s digital library, it is now possible to download the original manuscripts found in Proust’s 75 notebooks, along with the first printer's corrections of A l'ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs and the entirety of Gallimard's 1946-1947 edition of In Search of Lost Time. Follow Proust's process through pages of notes, corrections, add-ons, and changes (all his in his famously tiny handwriting!).

Free for download online, the newly digitized manuscripts are accessible to the public for the first time, allowing anyone and everyone an in-depth look at one of the greatest literary works of the 20th century.
