Tomi Ungerer: An Alsatian New Yorker!

June 10, 2011 | By French Culture

Legendary French children’s book author Tomi Ungerer is back to NYC! On Wednesday June 8, 2011, at the Cultural Services of French Embassy, the famous author of The Three Robbers kicked-off his American Tour, marking his 80th birthday celebration which will culminate in an exhibition opening of his work at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Massachusettsas.

Ungerer, who spent 15 years in New-York when he was young, hasn’t been to the US in over a decade. So it was a very symbolical and moving event: his numerous friends and readers, as well as the staff of his publisher Phaidon, gave him a standing ovation. He is not only an artist of many talents, but a real "genius", said the Cultural Counselor - and he’s right! Happy Birthday, Tomi!
