We are delighted to announce the new grantees for the Fall 2014 session of our French Voices Award. Once again, it has been a fruitful year for translation. After reading through many outstanding texts, the French Voices Award's 15-member committee chose 9 titles (5 fiction and 4 nonfiction).
Penguin Books has decided to publish the entire Georges Simenon's Maigret series unabridged in English for the first time. An ambitious and extensive launch for a highly prolific writer whose life may be as lengendary as his most famous character, the inspector Jules Maigret.
The year is ending on a high note for the translation world—especially for French books. According to the list we've compiled from publishers and our own research, over 500 titles were translated from French to English in 2014. That's a 23 percent increase in translated titles since last year!
