Dominique Kalifa

Dominique Kalifa is a French historian and professor at the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne, where he is the head of the Doctoral School of History and director of the Center of 19th Century History. A student of Michelle Perrot, he specializes in the history of crime, transgression, social control, and mass culture in France and Europe in 19th and early 20th centuries. He has also taught at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) since 2008 and writes reviews for the French newspaper Libération. He is currently completing a new book about the underworld and its role in the Western imagination.
