DOUBLE LIFE - Jérôme Bel

Jérôme Bel and Cédric Andrieux are coming to Houston for a theatrical exhibition where the audience is part of each artists' projects. As Véronique Doisneau and Cédric Andrieux recount personal anecdotes, alternating them with physical demonstrations of movement, we see Bel reject the notion that dancers are mere bodies employed to execute a choreographer’s vision. By making the dancers’ labor and character visible, Bel opens a space for the expression of their individual subjectivity onstage.

Gisèle Vienne: Kindertotenlieder

Making her New York Live Arts debut, Gisèle Vienne, in collaboration with Dennis Cooper and KTL - Stephen O'Malley & Peter Rehberg, takes audience members on an emotionally stirring journey that blurs the lines between reality and fiction. A true hybrid dance-theater work set in the visually arresting scenic landscape of a snowy winter night, Kindertotenlieder takes inspiration from the “uncanny” as presented by Sigmund Freud. The work examines the representation of horrifying dread as something both familiar and alien, triggering a cathartic, ceremonial experience.
