Taka Kigawa Performs Chopin and Debussy at LPR

Critically acclaimed pianist TAKA KIGAWA will present a solo recital on August 29th, 2016, performing Frederic Chopin’s 24 Preludes, Op. 28, and Claude Debussy’s Preludes, Books I and II. Chopin’s Preludes, Op. 28 and Debussy’s two books of Preludes have long been Taka Kigawa’s singular specialty. He has performed the music many times, garnering unanimous praise from both critics and audiences alike. For his performance of Debussy’s Preludes, The New York Times wrote,“Thoughtful, poetic accounts, Mr. Kigawa’s Debussy is carefully shaded and texturally transparent. He knows how to make this music sparkle. He is equally adept at tapping Debussy’s sense of mystery.”

Gipsy Kings at the Beacon Theatre

Melding deep-heated flamenco, rumba, salsa and pop to the tune of 20 million albums sold, the Grammy Award-winning hit-makers behind 'Bamboléo' celebrate over 25 years of taking audiences back to the south of France with their irresistible blend of flamenco guitars, Latin rhythms and booming Spanish vocals. Uniting the family Reyes and the family Baliardo, the band continues a tradition that has broken world music barriers as one of the rare groups to climb the US and World music charts. Their most recent album, Savor Flamenco, was awarded a Grammy for Best World Music Album in 2014. Now bringing the party back to the Beacon Theatre, The Gipsy Kings will raise the roof again with dance-ready furore, returning to their groundbreaking eponymous album and the nomadic spirit that has captured the world’s imagination.

Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet's Three Works exhibition at Harvard University

Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet: Three Works at the Carpenter Center comprises a video, stills, an annotated script, and other materials related to three distinct films by Straub and Huillet. Each installation reveals the varying and complementary methods used to confront the challenges of presenting the moving image in gallery contexts, while providing an introduction to the renowned French filmmaking duo’s cinema. Straub (b. 1933) and Huillet (1936–2006) were partners working intimately from the early 1960s until Huillet’s death, continually pursuing a writing and filmic practice dedicated to profoundly interpreting the art, literature, and institutions of Western culture.

Camille Blatrix at the Wattis Institute

Camille Blatrix’s objects are bittersweet—they are impeccably fabricated but fraught with emotional entanglement. The surfaces are scrutinized, the edges are caressed, each detail is perfected, and yet the metaphors remain abstract and the origin stories never clear. The Wattis Institute in San Francisco presents "Heroe", an exhibition on show from September 8th, 2016 to November 19th, 2016.
