Fête de la Musique, also called Make Music, is a day that celebrates music. Hoping to create a free event where anyone could appreciate music, 36 years ago France’s Ministry of Culture first hosted Fête de la Musique in 1982. Taking place on the summer solstice, June 21, this event has become a massive event in France and has spread around the world.

Just last year alone, over 1,000 cities in over 100 countries hosted citywide music celebrations.

This year, on June 15, Laguna Beach will celebrate La Fête de la Musique with face painting, a swing set band, and a children's parade.

There will also be events on June 21 in Los AngelesLong Beach, Fullerton, Davis, Buena Park, Anaheim, San Diego, and San Jose

In Los Angeles events will take place at Los Angeles Museum of the HolocaustLeimert Park Village, Santa Monica Place, A Place Called Home, Skirball Cultural Center, and the Thousand Oaks Mall.

In Long BeachMake Music will not have one central venue and performances will take place in a variety of outdoor & indoor spaces. Their goal is to generate a continuous soundscape of music as people walk around participating spaces.

Fullerton has selected designated locations to host festivities including Made Coffee, Fullerton Elks Lodge, Back Alley Bar, and more. Make Music Davis will take place in over fifteen venues including Davis Arts Center, Davis Community Church, U.S. Post Office, and Central Park. Make Music Buena Park will be hosted at The Source. In Anaheim, it will be solely held at the Anaheim Packing House. San Jose has listed over forty-one venues such as the San Hose Airport, Evergreen Branch Library, Almaden Community Center, and San Jose City Hall. San Diego has yet to release venue locations.

Be sure to take a break and enjoy some music this month at la Fête de la Musique
