The School for Temporary Liveness: French-American Dance Exchange

© Schirn Occasions (2017)

This year, seven students from the master "exerce" of the ICI-CCN of Montpellier (International Choreographic Institute - National Choreographic Center of Montpelllier) will join the initiative of the University of the Arts School of Dance as part of The School for Temporary Liveness from September 25th to October 2th, 2019. They will be joined by Anne Kerzerho, director of the master and Marie Preston, associate artist.

Presented by the University of the Arts-School of Dance, The School for Temporary Liveness reimagines performance through the poetic frame of a school. The School for Temporary Liveness mobilizes educational structures to generate new forms of knowledge and spectatorship. Comprising three zones of encounter, the School for Temporary Liveness invites audience members to move between a new commission by Isabel Lewis in The Classroom; Nora Chipaumire's three-part live-performance album in The Library; and group and one-on-one tutoring sessions led by a host of expert-practitioners, artists and scholars in Study Hall.

Initiated in 2011 in partnership with the Paul Valéry University of Montpellier, the master's degree “exerce” is since 2013, the only master level training in France accompanying artists in their project and research in dance. It has the particularity of being integrated into the life of the National Choreographic Center (CCN) of Montpellier - under the leadership of the artist Christian Rizzo - and thus assures the students-artists-researchers a privileged relation with the actuality of the international choreographic creation.

The School for Temporary Liveness is free and for the public. Anyone can be a student.
