In 2007, she moved to Aix-en-Provence to study law and classical and baroque voice at Darius Milhaud Conservatory. Releasing her first album, Cécile, in 2009, she then won the Thelonious Monk competition in Washington DC. Interested in in the connections between jazz, vaudeville, blues and folk music, McLorin Salvant went on to release three more albums.
