Symphonie Fantastique with Susanna Malkki

Sussanna Malkki, conductor, along with Leila Josefowicz, violinist, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic will perform pieces by Hector Berlioz and Luca Francesconi on October 27th, 2017 at 8:00pm, October 28th, 2017 at 8:00pm, and October 29th, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The program contains three pieces: "Queen Mab" Scherzo and Symphonie fantastique both written and composed by Hector Berlioz and Duende-The Dark Notes written and composed by Luca Francesconi. Symphonie fantastique is a well-known compostition written in "episodes" about the life of an artist and his self-destruction, obsessions, dreams, thoughts of suicide and murder, and passion for a beautiful woman. The piece itself lasts about 49 minutes and is hallucinatory, dream-like, and psychedelic in nature, most likely due to Berlioz's exposure to opium at the time. Francesconi's piece, Duende- The Dark Notes, is complimentary to Berlioz's pieces due to its equally hypnotic tones and sounds. Enjoy the entrancing musical stories of both Berlioz and Francesconi at this exciting event!
