HHUMAAN and CalArts' Winter Dance Concert

HHUMAAN, a free flash-mob performance, will take place outside the Walt Disney Concert Hall on December 15 and 16. This outdoor show, choreographed by Dimitri Chamblas, a renowned French dancer and the new Dean of The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance, will kick off CalArts’ Winter Dance Concert at REDCAT

Dimtri Chamblas, a native from Paris, is known for combining dance with other media platforms such as visual arts and filmmaking. Since the start of his career at age 10, Chamblas has collaborated with talented performers, visual artists, writers, and designers such as Boris Charmatz and Benjamin Millepied. Chamblas was the artistic director of the Paris Opera’s 3rd Scène, a digital platform for visual artists, composers, and choreographers. As the current Dean of the Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at CalArts, Chamblas starts off his new position by creating a memorable piece, HHUMAAN, to introduce the Winter Dance Concert.

HHUMAAN will be performed by 70 CalArts dance students and is free to the public. In this piece, Chamblas makes the streets a stage for his dancers by combining dance with LA’s impressive architecture and landscape. Through the dancers’ gestures, HHUMAAN will show audiences from the street, store windows, and cars, how natural movement brings urban public spaces to life.

CalArts’ annual Winter Dance Concert is a ticketed event that will take place on December 7 and 8 at the CalArts campus and also on December 15 and 16 at the REDCAT Theater. HHUMAAN will kick off the concert on the December 15 and 16. Organized by Chamblas, the Winter Dance Concert will feature four pieces choreographed by Rauf Yasit and faculty members, Laurence Blake, Nina Flagg, and Julie Bour.
