a diptych in the city

Continuing its mission to bring the excellence of contemporary artists to the San Francisco Bay Area through synergies of partnerships for site-related events and longer-term projects, Ars Citizen is thrilled to introduce internationally acclaimed Paris-based composer and artist Ryoji Ikeda.

“Home of the world’s largest firms and advanced research in electronic and information technologies, the Bay Area is a perfect location to present Ikeda’s work regarded as one of the most innovative and influential within computer-generated audiovisual creation” says Ars Citizen’s founding director and curator Evelyne Jouanno.

For Ikeda’s first major presentation in San Francisco, Ars Citizen has conceived a diptych project corresponding to Ikeda’s distinctive way to show his work, through both large-scale audiovisual performances and installations, either in night clubs or in art institutions like museums. Organized with different partners, the event will feature:

‘supercodex [live set]’, an audio-visual concert at Gray Area | January 9, 2018 (7pm)

‘A [4ch version]’, a site-specific exhibition at Ars Citizen temporary space -  Minnesota Street Project Gallery 200 (2nd fl.), January 9-21, 2018

Concurrent with the annual art fairs in San Francisco which connect national and international figures during a frenetic week of exhibitions and events in January 2018, the event aims to be a highlight of the moment. It will provide an unparalleled opportunity to experience leading-edge art while creating a challenging dialogue across art and tech-sciences communities.

In addition to Ryoji Ikeda: Premiere in San Francisco, a section of Gallery 200 at Minnesota Street Project will be occupied by the Ars Citizen Office, where the organization will present its developing programs for the Bay Area, with accomplished and on-going projects.

Ryoji Ikeda: Premiere in San Francisco is organized and curated by Ars Citizen.

Generous support is provided by Gray Area, Minnesota Street Project, The Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the US and The Consulate General of France in San Francisco.
