Forbidden Love: The Passion of Héloïse and Abelard

This Valentine’s Day, do you want to be reminded of the nature of true love? Then don’t miss the performance by Newberry Consort that present the true story of Pierre Abélard, a 12th century French philosopher, and his student, the brilliant and beautiful Héloïse D’Argenteuil.Their affair was erotic, profoundly intellectual, and socially taboo.  Forced to separate, the lovers communicated by letter for decades.  Their frank and intimate correspondence provides us with a voyeuristic glimpse into one of history’s great love stories. The actors share their writings accompagned by musical settings of poetry of courtly love from the 14th century, including music by Machaut, Cordier, Senleches, and others.
