Sabine Mirlesse at the Santa Fe Art Institute

Sabine Mirlesse has been awarded residency in the Santa Fe Art Institute's 2017-2018 program, "Equal Justice." The Santa Fe Art Institue strives to re-imagine a more equitable world, working at the intersection of the arts and social justice and utilizing artists to effect positive social change. In the Fall of 2017, the institute awarded 80 residencies to a variety of artists and experts to allow them to explore the use of art as a tool to challenge systems of power and structural oppression. Among these artists is Sabine Mirlesse.

Mirlesse earned her BA in Religious Studies and English Literature from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and has a MFA in Photography from Parsons the New School for Design in New York City. She works mostly with photography, but sometimes expands into other art mediums such as drawings, found images, printmaking, video, and writing. She explores ideas of mythology, ritual, thresholds, imprints and traces, the individual’s relationship to landscape, and the power of nature in work. Mirlesse has been featured in a multitdue of publications, including Time Magazine's "Lightbox", The British Journal of Photography, and Le Monde's "M." She teaches at Paris College of Art as well. Her talent and expertise will be an exciting addition to the Santa Fe Art Institute and it's residency program.
