Théâtre du Rêve, the United States’ only French-English bilingual theater company, will present Il Était Une Fois at Seven Stages Theater in Atlanta March 6-25.

An original production written and directed by TdR founder and artistic director Carolyn Cook, Il Était Une Fois transports spectators to the France of Louis XIV, where women used the wonder of Fairy Tales to subversively speak truth to power. Recounted aloud in Parisian Salons and later published in print, these stories contained subtle but defiant political messages about the suppression of women's legal rights at that time. Il Était Une Fois is based on "Finette Cendron," a story by Countess Marie-Catherine d'Aulnoy, who is credited with coining the term "fairy tales" through the publication of her bestselling collection, Les Contes des Fées (Tales of Fairies).

The production stars Natalie Karp, Eliana Marianes, and Jennifer Schottstaedt. It will be presented in French with English supertitles.
