Cocteau and Marais

Jean Cocteau was a prodigiously gifted poet, playwright, artist, set designer, and experimental filmmaker. Jean Marais, who became Cocteau’s longtime lover, was perhaps the greatest French actor of his generation. In their film collaborations, the pair created classics—and set a high bar for avant-garde cinema. The Trylon presents two Cocteau-Marais masterpieces, Beauty and the Beast and Orpheus.
