Perriand in the Mountains

Matthew Rachman Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition featuring pieces by the pioneering French modernist designer and architect Charlotte Perriand (French, 1903-1999). Perriand in the Mountains allows one to step into and experience the modernist collection forged by Perriand's passion and fervor. The exhibition features pieces from ski lodges in Savoie, France called Les Arcs, designed by Perriand 50 years ago and from the collection of two Perriand-inspired architects. The Les Arcs project was built on and exemplifies notions of respect for the beauty of the natural landscape, preservation of existing mountain chalet structures, and utilization of locally sourced materials to create the new standard environment for Alpine skiing.

Charlotte Perriand is noted as one of the most innovative furniture and interiror designers of the twentieth century, spanning five eras of furniture design, from Art Deco modernism to the prefabricated bathroom and kitchen units of the 1970's. Fusing technology and nature, Perriand's sensitivity to the harmony of space, objects, and human nature is demonstrated through her creations.

Join us for the official public opening of Perriand in the MountainsSat, Apr 14 from 6-9 PM at Matthew Rachman Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.
