Candide at the Clarence Brown Theatre

Cast from the 2018/2019 CBT production of Leonard Bernstein’s Candide

The Clarence Brown Theatre and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra present the Tony-award winning musical Candide August 29 -September 16. This popular adaptation of Voltaire’s satirical novel features music by Leonard Berstein and lyrics by Richard Wilburn, John Latouche and Stephen Sondheim.

The naïve Candide is separated from his beloved and journeys around the world to find her. In the face of ever-increasing catastrophes, he holds firm to the belief of his mentor, Dr. Pangloss, that “this is the best of all possible worlds.”

The show is directed by the Clarence Brown Theatre’s Artistic Director, Calvin MacLean, with musical direction by KSO Music Director Aram Demirjian. The production is made possible by a generous grant from The Roy Cockrum Foundation.
