Madame de Souza is worried about her young grandson, Champion. Nothing interests him and attempts to find him a hobby have failed thus far. But after finding out about his hidden interest in cycling, his parents’ occupation, she buys him a bike and gets him training to be a future cycling star. After training to become a professional cyclist, Champion earns a spot in the annual Tour de France, the ultimate competition in cycling. But during the race, Champion and two other cyclists are suddenly kidnapped by the French mafia. The three cyclists wind up in Belleville and are forced to assist in the creation of a “virtual Tour de France” to be made for gambling.

Desperate to rescue Champion, Madame de Souza hits the road. She meets with the Belleville Sisters, a team of elderly singers from the days of Fred Astaire reinvented as improvisational performers, eventually teaming up with them in an effort to rescue Champion. This burlesque thriller takes us on Madame de Souza’s hair-raising search for her grandson, featuring especially the bustling Parisian neighborhood of Belleville.

A charming tribute to French Parisian cabarets and Jazz of the 1930s, Sylvain Chomet’s animated film The Triplets of Belleville screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003 and was nominated for two Academy Awards.
