Crossing the Line Festival 2018

Unwritten Letters © Noura Sairour

The twelfth edition of FIAF's Festival Crossing the Lines will take place in New York City from September 18 to October 13, 2018. Crossing the Line is an international arts festival for New York City produced by the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) in partnership with leading cultural institutions. This year, works and performances (including U.S. and NY premieres) by contemporary French and international artists, will be presented in seven venues across the city.

For this edition, dance is in the spotlight: several major new works by leading choreographers will be premiered in New York. Among them, two are supported by the FUSED (French U.S. Exchange in Dance) program:

  • French dancer and choreographer Boris Charmatz with his ambitious work 10000 gestures | Sept 27 and 28 | 7:30pm | NYU Skirball (more info)
  • French-Algerian choreographer and performer Nacera Belaza who presents three of her most recent works, Sur le Fil, La Nuit, and La Traversée | Oct 4, 5, 6 | 8pm | Dancespace Project (more info)

French contemporary theater will  be represented, among others, by two projects supported by FACE Contemporary Theater:

  • The U.S. premiere of Unwritten Letters by writer, director and actor David Geselson|  Sept 22 | 9pm | FIAF Skyroom (more info)
  • A Beautiful Ending by author, director and performer Mohamed El Khatib   | Sept 22 | 7pm | FIAF Florence Gould Hall (more info)

French actress Jeanne Balibar will present an evening inspired by the pioneering work of Anne-Emmanuelle Demartini, Charlotte de Castelnau, and Emmanuelle Loyer. She will present an essay by each of these women, connecting their words with parallels in her own personal history to create an intimate and profound self-portrait of the actress.
