INSULA - a musical hommage to Frantz Fanon

Institute of Contemporary Art Miami (ICA Miami)  presents the stateside debut of French Jazz project Insula, led by Martinican pianist Maher Beauroy and Franco-Algerian oud player Redha Benabdallah with accompaniment by Brazilian percussionist Adriano Tenorio. Inspired by the writings of post-colonial theorist and psychoanalyst Frantz Fanon, their sound is a polymathic fusion of traditional Arab-Andalusian music and modern Caribbean jazz. Admission is free with required RSVP.

This event is presented in conjunction with IDEA 009: Frantz Fanon Symposium on September 29th at ICA Miami with Invited speakers including Simone Browne, Aimé Charles-Nicolas, R.A. Judy, Jean Khalfa, and David Marriott. A series of short films comprising Larry Achiampong and David Blandy’s project Finding Fanon will be viewed as part of the program.

The concert Insula and the participation of Aimé Charles-Nicolas are made possible with the support of the French Embassy Cultural Services.
