Fall Concert at La Maison Française: Abu Sadiya

Join us for an exciting jazz concert with acclaimed French musicians of Abu Sadiya, with an opening act by The Cornerstore, winner of the 2018 DC JazzPrix band competition.

Part of the DC Jazz Festival 's Charles Fishman Series, this special event will feature Abu Sadiya with French saxophonist Yacine Boulares, French cellist Vincent Segal, and Australian drummer Rajiv Jayaweera.

In 2014, Brooklyn based French-Tunisian saxophonist Yacine Boulares met French cellist Vincent Segal on the recording of Placido Domingo's intimate album Encanto del Mar, and decided to collaborate on a new trio project: an original suite of variations re-imagining the healing trance music – Stambeli, created by the descendants of Sub-Saharan slaves in Tunisia. Boulares and Segal's original compositions form a series of variations on the legend of the hunter Abu Sadiya. In his wandering search for his enslaved daughter, Abu Sadiya danced and sang his sorrow thus becoming the first musician of Stambeli and commemorating the memory of Sub-Saharan slaves in Tunisia. Suite for Abu Sadiya was created with the support from the French-American Jazz Exchange in collaboration with the French label Accords Croises.

This concert is presented by Events DC, DC Jazz Festival, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and FACE Foundation, with the generous support of Linda and Michael Sonnenreich.

Registration required. Please RSVP to skylar@dcjazzfest.org
