Rachel Cobb's Mistral

Copyright Rachel Cobb

Rachel Cobb will discuss her new book Mistral, a beautiful fine art photography book about Provence seen through its legendary wind, at the Diesel Bookstore in Santa Monica on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 3pm.

Rachel Cobb, a veteran photojournalist, has exhibited her photographs in solo and group shows at numerous venues, including the Miami Museum of Art, the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the Parrish Art Museum, and Visa Pour l'Image in Perpignan, France. Her award-winning work covering social issues, news, and feature stories has been widely published in newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, The New Yorker, Sports Illustrated, Time, Rolling Stone, and Stern.

Mistral, illustrating the legendary wind of Provence, was created from Cobb’s interest in the rhythms and effects of this relentless force of nature. Over the past 40 years, the photojournalist has been visiting Provence to capture the effects of wind on the people, architecture, agriculture, and landscape of Provence.

The book designed by Yolanda Cuomo, recipient of the National Magazine Award, will include an introduction by the best-selling author and journalist Bill Buford as well an an excerpt from Paul Auster's Winter Journal about the months he spent enduring "the violence of the mistrals" in Provence.
