Monday Evening Concerts invites you to attend Debussy, Taemitsu, Boulez: Brutal Elegance. This concert will take place on May 20, 2019 at 8pm in Zipper Hall at The Colburn School

Pieces that will be played that night include French composers Claude Debussy’s Incidental Music to Chansons de Bilitis (completed by Pierre Boulez) and Pierre Boulez’s Sur Incises. Toshio Hosokawa’s “Haiki” for Pierre Boulez and Tour Takemitu’s Rain Tree will also be featured.

Jonathan Hepfer, a concert conductor who specializes in avant-garde and experimental music, will be conducting this performance. Hepfer is also the artistic director of Monday Evening Concerts in Los Angeles and has taken part in major U.S. premieres by Salvatore Sciarrino, Gérard Grisey, György Kurtág, Rolf Riehm, Jo Kondo, Aldo Clementi, and many more.

In regards to the performance, Hepfer says:

This program, which also serves as an homage to Boulez, presents a work by Claude Debussy which may reveal something important about Boulez's roots vis-à-vis instrumental color, as well as works by two Japanese titans, Toshio Hosokawa and Toru Takemitsu, whose works seem to complement those of Boulez like pieces of a puzzle.” — Jonathan Hepfer

Reduced priced tickets are available to students. Book your tickets soon to experience this upcoming concert!
