Holocaust Remembrance Film Series

Au revoir les enfants, dir. Louis Malle. 1987.

Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust launched the annual Holocaust Remembrance Film Series in the summer of 2016 through the support of the Teicholz Holocaust Remembrance Film Fund. The Fund was established by Tom Teicholz, an award-winning journalist who has written extensively about the Holocaust, and the Holocaust in film, and who previously endowed film screenings of films about the Holocaust.

The 2019 film series focuses on the “Holocaust and France.” A different film will be offered each week in June:

  • La Rafle (2010; The Round Up) – Thursday, June 6 at 7pm: Depicts the Vel' d'Hiv Roundup, the mass arrest of Jews in Paris in July 1942.
  • Au Revoir Les Enfants (1987) – Thursday, June 13 at 7pm: Tells the story of students at a French boarding school run by priests during World War II.
  • The Sorrow and the Pity (Part 1; 1969) – Thursday, June 20 at 7pm:                     A documentary film about the collaboration between the Vichy government and Nazi Germany during World War II.
  • Les Héritiers (2014; Once in a Lifetime) – Thursday, June 27 at 7pm: Tells the story of a teacher in Paris who enters her students in a competition to examine the Holocaust from the point of view of its impact on young people.

Each film screening is followed by a panel discussion with filmmakers and/or historians, moderated by Tom Teicholz. This year's speakers will address the rise in antisemitism in both the United States and Europe.

The series is free and open to the public, RSVP here.
