French Tv Series Les Revenants Gets An American Remake.

A&E Network has nabbed rights to the supernatural drama, which will be developed as a co-production between A+E Studios and FremantleMedia North America. A writer has not yet been attached but Bates Motel and Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse is near a deal to adapt the drama.

Created by Fabrice GobertLes Revenants (The Returned in English) was inspired by the 2004 feature film by the same name directed by Robin Campillo. The Returned is based on the feature film Les Revenants by Robin Campillo. Set in Annecy, a French mountain town, the narrative follows a seemingly random collection of people who attempt to regain their homes and reclaim their lives without realizing that they’ve been dead for years and that nobody has been waiting for their return. As they struggle to reintegrate with their families and past lovers, buried secrets emerge and mysteries develop as they grapple with a miraculous and sinister new reality, and it seems they are not the only ones to have returned from the dead.

The first season, composed of eight episodes, has been co-produced and broadcast in France by Canal + last year. Last year it received the largest viewership for an original series in the history of the TV channel. It has also done well in the UK where it airs on Channel 4 as Rebound. A second season is already scheduled for next year.

The news comes weeks after Sundance Channel announced it had acquired the eight-episode first season of the original French series which will debut at the end of October.
