Cannes Palmarès !

The 2013 Cannes Festival wrapped up last week announcing the big winners Abdel Kechiche, Léa Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos who shared the Palme d’Or for Blue is the Warmest Colour (La Vie d'Adèle - Chapitre 1 & 2). In an unusual move, the jury decided to award the festival’s top prize not just to the director, but also the stars of the film, the story of a coming of age romance between two young women. Inside Llewyn Davis, Joel and Ethan Coen’s film about the 1960s downtown New York folk scene, widely seen as a favorite for the Palme, received the ‘second place’ Grand Prix.

Along with the trio of Palme d’Or winners, two other major prizes went to French citizens, with Berenice Bejo winning Best Actress for her work in The Past (Le Passé) and director Rithy Panh received the Prix Un Certain Regard for L’image manquante. The American actor Bruce Dern took home the award for Best Actor for his role in Alexander Payne’s Nebraska. Finally, in another surprise to many viewers and critics, Amat Escalante won best director for his violent crime drama Heli.
