A Drive-in Movie Theater Comes To The Grand Palais

Roller-skating, a cheeseburger and fries for dinner, and a drive-in movie: it sounds like a teenager's date night circa 1955 in some American town, or for a few weeks this summer, a night out at the Grand Palais in Paris.

Fiat and the film company MK2 have come together to transform the vast interior space of this later 19th century exhibition hall into a outpost of mid-20th century Americana. Like something dreamed up by Jean Baudrillard or Walt Disney Imagineering, new and old Fiat 500's will supply some of the seating for a faux drive-in screening period films including Psycho, Grease and Pulp Fiction. Canadian chef Gita Seaton will helm a burger joint installed in the space, and there will even be a roller skating rink that will turn into a dance floor at night. This time warp will stay open from June 10 to June 21 and take in 1,000 visitors at a time.
