Mathieu Gallet Appointed Ceo Of Radio France

Mathieu Gallet has been officially appointed to succeed Jean-Luc Hees at the head of Radio France, the French public service radio broadcaster. At 37, he will become the youngest CEO in the history of the station. He is set to take office in May 2014. His nomination was confirmed Thursday, March 27th by the Conseil Supérieur de l'Audiovisuel (CSA, an independent administration in charge of the regulation of various electronic media in France, such as radio and television).

From a pool of six candidates, Mr. Gallet was unanimously elected as Mr. Hee’s successor by the nine members of the CSA. Olivier Schrameck, president of the CSA, presented him as “the audacious and dynamic choice”. Mr. Schrameck praised his “great awareness of digital challenges,” his “strategic vision,” as well as his “strong-willed temperament”.

He was appointed president of the INA (Institut National de l’Audiovisuel, France’s national audiovisual archive) in 2010. During his presidency, he was credited with overseeing its transition towards digital media and opening INA’s archives to the public. Gallet has worked for several private companies such as Warner, Pathé and Canal+ before joining the public sector, first with the Ministry of Industry in 2006 then with the Ministry of Culture in 2007.

He is expected to carry on the work of his predecessor while developing areas such as digital technology within the group. He will also oversee the finalization of Radio France’s move to a central Parisian cultural location. One of his main challenges will be to restore the station’s audience ratings.
