Renoir, A Film By Gilles Bourdos

Gilles Bourdos has made a film that traces the story of the two Renoirs, Auguste and Jean and the woman between them, Andrée.  Andrée was Auguste’s last muse, and Jean’s first wife.  She was in all of his early silent films, and was the star of Nana.  But her story is little known – only one interview with her  exists, and the part that she played in the work and lives of these two masters has been forgotten.  Bourdos’ film, which was part of the Official Selection at Cannes in 2012,  seeks to redeem this woman, who, he says, is the ‘connection between father and son, between painting and cinema'.
