WNYU Presents Films on the Green Playlist

Films on the Green, the free French film festival in NYC parks, has once again partnered with WNYU to bring French and francophone music to our screenings this year at Washington Square Park.

From classic French to pre-revolution Vietnamese music, the DJs Benjamin Zinevich and Natalie Komissarova have curated these playlists to not only transport you to the Francophone world, but to also help you discover underrated international music.

On The Scent of Green Papaya playlist:

Ben says, “This playlist features a lot of my favorite kinds of sounds, which include international disco and dance music. Alongside many French and francophile songs, I included a lot of pre-revolution Vietnamese music. Much of the latter is attractive in its definitively American sound.”

This playlist was featured before our screening of The Scent of Green Papaya on June 8, 2018.

Like what you hear? Ben is also a co-DJ alongside Nadia Sanchéz for the disco/funk show "The Rhythm Section" on air and online every Monday at 7:30 at 89.1 FM or wnyu.org worldwide.

On The Rules of the Game playlist:

Natalie says, “When composing the selection, my main goal was to show the range of the French soundscape, creating a mix between the old and new: I included lesser-known French classics, to convey a sense of familiarity that would resonate with the listener, as well as new music by underexposed contemporary artists, fulfilling WNYU's mission to be an educative radio station. In a world where anglophone music dominates, many people don’t feel the need to branch out and discover music from other cultures. With my selection, I want to show the appeal and variety that French music has to offer and perhaps inspire people to be more open towards foreign music.”

This playlist was featured before our screening of The Rules of the Game on June 15, 2018.
